This 19th century, Reclining Buddha is made entirely of wood, intricately hand-carved throughout the sculpture, and is painted with antiqued cream finish with a green patina color to accent the robe. Statues of the “Reclining Buddha” are very common in Thailand as they relate to the legend of the giant Asurindarahu..who did not want to bow to Buddha, but when the Buddha lay down he was much larger than him. Notice how the Buddha is resting on his right hand which is proof that the statue is related to this legend. Other statues of “Reclining Buddhas” show Buddha’s right hand by his side, which is to depict the last moments on earth before entering Nirvana. The Reclining Buddha would definitely be a conversation piece added to any environment.. home or business. As this art work truly represents Thailand’s cultural heritage, it would look so charming displayed in a restaurant, store front, on your mantle at home, or many other settings.
