Authentic French Vintage Champagne/Wine Riddling Rack_1970s
This unique & authentic 1970s European, 204 bottle Riddling Rack manufactured by S.A. Leban in the region of Epernay, France, as attested to by the stamp on the rack itself. This region of France is/was widely known for its manufacturing of riddling racks.. While most racks only hold 120 bottles, this behemoth rack is unusual in its size of 204 compared to what’s on the market today. It was 1818 before the story of riddling really started. Legend has it that Madame Clicquot, prompted by an employee, took a kitchen table and had "holes drilled in it at an angle, so that the bottles might be set at different angles and be turned while remaining in their places as to encourage the sediment to collect under the force of gravity. The sediment being important for the wine but distasteful for the drinker. It was imported from France in 2012. It was later acquired by The Antique Garage in 2018 in Florida. This fabulous rack was used to manufacture champagne/wine in the historic underground caves of France. It holds a massive 204 bottles and is made of rich French Oak. It is ideal for wine storage or simply to display bottles. Bottles can be displayed on both sides of the rack. It can also be hung or leaned against a wall if space is limited. It has all of its original hardware (hinges, chain and hook, and cast iron foot pegs) and patina with a few marrs and scratches, we just spruced it up by rubbing it down with a linseed oil blend giving it a rich lustre. It is a stunning piece that has a priceless history to tell all your friends and family.
