Vintage French Butcher Block Table Island
Authentic Circa 1920-1930 Butcher Block Table Island. This Vintage French piece is complete with original blocking, legs and small worm holes bored out over time in the table. The wood had dried out so extensively over the years it had literally fallen apart into hundreds of pieces. It has been painstakingly reassembled, sanitized and sealed, but retains the original curvatures of nearly 100 years of cutting breads, vegetables, and meat products from who knows how many locations. Many of the original cutting marks still adorn the butcher block border. This one-of-a-kind piece has been intricately reassembled using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban torching process around the border of the table. To add an eye-popping contrast, antique white paint with aged distressing was used on the legs and table base. The cutting board was sealed with numerous coats of food grade linseed oil to add years more of durability to this unique piece. A hammered steel shelf was constructed to support two authentic 1950s French Beer Crates for storing fruits, vegetable or other wares. Hand towel or pan hooks and industrial-styled end block handles, also suitable for hanging hand towels or dish rags, were incorporated into the design along with non-marking silicone caster wheels to transform it into a mobile island. A blending of baked-on black and white hammer paints were used on all the hardware, providing an appealing contrast for elegance. Use this distinctive butcher block island around your kitchen, patio or game room as a functional or decorative piece sure to be a topic of conversation. The price is a steal! As an added note, raw, un-refurbished antique butcher block tables similar to this one without all the added features are selling for $2,200.
