They are shaped pieces of metal that are flat and polished on one side and have a handle attached to the other, created for the purpose of de-wrinkling fabric. “Sad” is an old English word for “solid,” Today, they are often used as decor: bookends, displayed in modern farmhouse decor, as well as in vintage shops and businesses. Of course, there are still many collectors who cherish these prized items that tell a story of past times.
