Antique Shanxi Lacquered Wood Cabinet
Antique Shanxi Lacquered Wood Cabinet, circa 1780-1800s is a handcrafted masterpiece that originated in the northern province of Shanxi, China. The style of cabinet is often referred to as a Chinese Scholars Cabinet. Lacquered furniture, such as this, was created during the Ming & Qing Dynasties. It is made of Elm wood, a traditional wood of the harsh, dry climates of the northern province. The cabinet is designed with an elegant overhanging roof, 4 shelves, and two removable double-hinged doors. The legs are slightly splayed giving it a subtle tapered A-frame silhouette. A completion of perfection and serenity! This cabinet is a rich rusty-red color in all its original luster. It is truly a magnificent piece of furniture. Its 4 large shelves provide ample storage for blankets, linens, bedding, dishes, etc. It could be displayed as a linen closet in a bathroom, used in a bedroom as an entertainment center or for storing bedding & blankets, as well as placed in a dining room or living room….there really is no place this beautiful cabinet couldn’t be displayed! As you can see from a previous antique shop this cabinet was sold for approx. $4,800. In today's market, the market price can easily be over $6,500.
