Antique Outhouse Door
This 1800s (or possibly earlier) antique door was rescued from a downtown Washington DC, Pennsylvania Avenue (that’s right, just across from the White House) underground parking garage, dumpster loading dock. A restaurant and bar was undergoing renovation and tossed it out with the trash. Talk about being in the right place at the right time to find this beauty. The door has the original light green patina with undertones of other colors from years gone by. The iron hardware latch and hinges are all original and very heavy duty. There’s a sliding “Star” cutout which indicates it was most likely an outhouse door, but no one really knows it’s origination. Imagine, President George Washington, soldiers from the revolutionary or civil war, or innumerous other historical figures may have sat behind this door to take care of business. This door could be custom fit and used as a pantry or utility door, closet door, or just as room wall decor to spruce up a room and add a unique piece of history...even if you have to make some of it up.
